MOTORISTS are being of disruption that will be caused by major improvements to a motorway junction.

Tarbock Island at Knowsley will undergo an investment of more than £10 million to improve connectivity, flow of traffic and journey times at this busy junction.

The work will create additional capacity by increasing the number of lanes on the approaches to the roundabout, as well as widening the roundabout itself.

Initial work has already taken place on Cronton Road (on its eastbound approach to Tarbock Island), while additional improvement work was due to begin on Monday, May 13.

This phase of work involves temporary lane closures on the westbound carriageway of Cronton Road (Aldi side of the road) between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm.

In addition, the M62 Eastbound exit slip road at Junction 6 (exiting the M62 from Liverpool travelling in the direction of Manchester) will be closed from Tuesday, May 21.

This full slip road closure will be in place 24/7 for up to 18 weeks with diversions in place throughout.

Diverted traffic will be directed to the M62 Junction 7 and return to Tarbock Island via the M62 Junction 7 westbound entry slip road and the M62 westbound carriageway.

A statement on the Knowsley Council website read: "Whilst all possible steps are being taken to minimise disruption there will be some unavoidable delays to journeys.

"Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, or choose alternative routes where possible.

"This initial improvement work is being funded through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund (SIF)."
