THE St Helens Colour Run is returning to Victoria Park in June.
It follows the success of an inaugural event held last year as part of Borough of Culture celebrations,
A partnership event between St Helens Borough Council’s Active Lives and Sports Development team and Willowbrook Hospice, with sponsorship from Alliance Connectivity, the family-friendly activity challenges participants to run, skip, or walk around a 4k route of the Green Flag award-winning park.
While doing so, they get covered in safe, biodegradable coloured powder – a bright fundraising idea for the hospice which provides specialist palliative care for patients across the borough and surrounding areas.
Encouraging residents to take part, St Helens Borough Council’s cabinet member for wellbeing, communities and culture, Councillor Anthony Burns, said: "I'm delighted to see St Helens Colour Run return to Victoria Park after last year's success which saw more than 250 people take part, raising an incredible £4,500 for Willowbrook - a vital facility we’re proud to have here in our borough who we look to work with as much as possible to help raise much-needed funds.
“Colour runs always prove to be popular events, resulting in families - who don’t necessarily have to be into running - coming out and spending time together, so it would be great to see a repeat of last year, with hundreds coming together to get active in such a beautiful park setting for such a worthy cause.”
Willowbrook Hospice head of fundraising, Suzanne Davies, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with St Helens Borough Council again to bring this fun event to Victoria Park.
"It costs £5.2m per year to run all our patient services and as we only receive £1.5m from NHS funding, our fundraising events are essential for us to continue to give the very best care to our patients.”
St Helens Colour run will take place in Victoria Park on Saturday 29 June, with participants asked to arrive at 12pm for a 12.30pm start.
