Police image appeal after car stolen in burglary in St Helens

Officers believe the man and a woman in the pictures may have information that could assist their investigation after the vehicle was stolen from a property in Sutton.
 
In the early hours of Thursday, April 4, between 12am and 1am, it was reported that a blue Audi A1 had been stolen from a house on Smith Street. CCTV footage from the area revealed a man dressed in dark clothing and gloves trying the front door handles in the street.

The stolen vehicle was then seen with a man and a woman inside at around 10am on the same day day (Thursday, April 4), in the Burtonwood area. 

Since the burglary further CCTV and witness enquiries have been conducted in the area and detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man and woman they wish to speak to who could assist in their investigation.

'A despicable and invasive crime'

 
Detective Inspector Richard Shillito said: “To break into someone’s house where people felt safe in their own surroundings fast asleep is a despicable and invasive crime.
 
“We are now asking the local community who have information, however small, to come forward and help if they saw something out of ordinary in the early hours of Thursday 4 April or if they have potential CCTV from doorbell or dashcam cameras that can assist with us identifying those responsible.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the woman and man pictured as we feel they have information that could be vital to our investigation. If this image jogs your memory and you remember seeing anything suspicious in the area during the early morning of on Thursday, April 4 please contact police.

“Finally I would urge everyone to be vigilant and secure your vehicle when parked so it can’t be taken by opportunistic thieves. You can find more information and advice around stopping vehicle theft on our website.”
