A MAN from Prescot has been charged with arson and domestic assault after a fire caused damage to a property. 

Police were called to an address in Halewood at 10.45pm on Sunday, April 28, where it was reported a man had started a fire close to the front door, causing damage inside the home.

Patrols attended and located a discarded petrol can.

No-one was hurt during the incident, police said.

It was further reported the man had assaulted the occupant of the property a week earlier by striking her to the head with a wooden plank.

A suspect was detained nearby by officers in attendance.

Phillip Deens, 45, of Moss Street, Prescot has since been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH). 

He was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday, April 30).
