A LONG-ESTABLISHED fish and chip shop in the heart of St Helens town centre has been placed on the market.
Tanan's on Westfield Street is listed for sale on Rightmove, with an asking price of £69,950.
The sale notice states that the owners of the business are planning on retiring.
The traditional fish and chip shop, which offers eat-in or takeaway, is located alongside a mix of businesses, bars and pubs on the street.
Inside the premises, there is seating for 32 diners.
The property for sale listing says it is "currently run on six, short lunchtime openings, just 18 hours a week", adding that "the potential for energetic and ambitious new owners is tremendous, especially with the location being so central to the club and bar circuit".
The food and drink sector in St Helens has faced significant challenges over recent years, with Covid restrictions and the cost-of-living crisis creating pressures for businesses.
However, the advert on RighMove promoting the sale claims that "extending the opening hours would prove hugely profitable".
It is the latest business to be listed for sale in St Helens town centre, which, like many northern towns, is battling against declining footfall in day times and evenings.
However, there are significant regeneration plans due to start in the next 12 months, centred on the Church Street, Hall Street and Bickerstaffe Street areas.
Regeneration leaders believe the plans are already attracting investors, who are snapping up available properties in St Helens.
Ernest Wilson & Co Limited, based in Leeds, is handling the sale.
