A PERSON has died on the railway line in St Helens.
British Transport Police confirmed the tragic news in a statement following an emergency incident earlier today, Monday.
Police and paramedics attended the scene close to Lea Green train station shortly before 11am.
The force says that an investigation continues regarding the circumstances of the death.
Train services were cancelled and delayed while emergency services were at the scene.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Lea Green railway station at around 10.56am today, Monday, April 22, to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended alongside paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to their death.”
