TAYLOR Prescott has retraced the footsteps of his dad by completing the London Marathon - doing so in an impressive time of 3 hours 17 mins, 17 seconds.
It was the first time the 22-year-old had taken on the course and the achievement marks the completion of another gruelling challenge since the loss of his dad, the inspirational charity fundraiser and rugby league great Steve.
Steve starred for Saints, Hull FC and Wakefield before taking on a series of incredible challenges following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
He ran the world’s most famous marathon three times while battling a rare form of abdominal cancer.
Going into the marathon, Taylor described the challenge as both daunting and exciting.
So far more than £8,000 has been pledged to his efforts, with a target set at £15,000.
This afternoon the Steve Prescott Foundation revealed Taylor had completed the course.
In a statement, the charity said: "Smashed the TCS London Marathon in 3hrs 17min 17 secs, beating his target time.
"We are all incredibly proud of you and your achievements.
"I can see your Dad jumping up and down with elation and then putting on his running shoes and training to beat your time.
"His astonishing legacy is in safe hands with you and Koby Prescott."
Speaking previously about the marathon, Taylor said: "I’m no stranger to marathons having done seven ultras in seven days as well as the Manchester Marathon in 2021, but London is on another level,” he says.
“It’s such a prestigious race, one that I’ve tried to get a place in for the last four years.
"My dad and my granddad both took part in the London Marathon so it will be special to follow in their footsteps.”
“I remember going to London to watch dad in 2008 and 2010 and I was able to see him on the route and give him a handful of jelly babies. I can still remember how much it meant to him to see us and what a boost it gave him.
“I hope I see the same support in April and my family are as proud as me as I was of my dad. He ran it three times with a terminal illness, and I will be thinking about that every step of the way when the going gets tough.”
