A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was left with a head wound after falling victim to a “cowardly and unprovoked attack” outside Prescot Train station.
Officers were called on Monday, April 1 at around 8pm following reports that the woman had got off a train at Prescot railway station and was verbally abused as she was walking along Station Road Boulevard by a group of males.
One of the males then struck her with an unknown object before they left the scene on foot back towards the railway station.
The victim was able to return home and was then taken to hospital for treatment to a head wound.
Police are in the early stages of investigating this incident and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “This was a cowardly and unprovoked attack by a group of males on a young woman who was on her own and simply making her way home.
“The assault has left her with a nasty head injury and we are in the early stages of investigating this incident to find the people responsible.
“If you were in the area and witnessed this incident, please get in touch. If you live in the area or were driving past at the time, please review your CCTV and dashcam footage in case you captured anything that would help our ongoing enquiries.”
