POLICE have explained the reasons why officers were seen near the construction site of a new care home.

Officers were called to Millfields and Knowsley Road in Eccleston on Wednesday evening amid reports of "trespassing" at a property.

Police vans, cars and dog handlers were all called out, say onlookers.

However, police say that despite the reports of suspicious behaviour,  they did not find anyone at the scene nor were there any reports of theft or damage.

In a statement police said: "We received a report of a suspected incident of trespassing at a premises on Millfields at around 7.40pm last night, Wednesday, March 20.

"Officers attended the scene but no one was found and nothing was reported stolen or damaged."

Although police did not make clear which property there had been a reported trespassing incident, officers seemed to be stationed around the construction site of a new £12m care home.

The development is on the site of the former Millfields fire station.
