TWO men are in hospital after one was found with a stab wound to the back and another with a laceration to his arm this morning.

Detectives are appealing for information following a stabbing in Haydock in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, March 7.

At around 3.45am, emergency services were called to Vicarage Road to reports of a man in his 20s being found with a laceration to his arm.

A second man in his 20s was found nearby with a stab wound to his back. Both injuries are non life-threatening.

A scene remains on Vicarage Road and nearby streets as enquiries are carried out.

Speaking to the Star, a local resident said: “I didn’t know what happened, I woke up in the early morning to all the blue lights outside and knew nothing. 

“It’s scary all those knife crime now, it seems like it’s happening everywhere you know.”

Another said: “I just turned up for work today and saw them all there. Really hope everyone is okay but honestly it’s scary that knife crime can happen on our streets like that.”

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotherham said: "At this stage we are looking to establish the circumstances of what appears to have been a targeted attack, and one which clearly could have had even more serious consequences.

"We're keen to hear from anyone with information, or who lives by and may have captured what happened on CCTV or other devices. Please check as this could be key to finding those responsible.

"Please avoid the area and thanks to residents for your patience as we carry out these vital enquiries."
