THE town hall car park has been forensically searched this afternoon following reports of suspected bullets being found nearby on Thursday,
With a police presence seen outside St Helens town hall today (Friday, February 23), police confirmed that this is in relation to suspected ammunition found outside of the town hall yesterday afternoon.
Three suspected bullets are reported to have been found on Victoria Square at around 4.20pm yesterday, and a "forensic examination" has been taking place around the town hall grounds.
This has included a thorough search of the town hall car park, with officers seen searching underneath vehicles, while two police cordons has prevented any vehicles from getting in or out from the exits.

Police have confirmed that the suspected bullets have been seized and will be sent for further examination, while enquiries continue.
The council said that it could not comment on the matter.
Workers have been turning up at the cordon asking when they can remove their cars.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Officers are currently in St Helens following the recovery of suspected ammunition yesterday, Thursday, February 22.
"At around 4.20pm, it was reported that three suspected bullets had been found in Victoria Square.
"Patrols attended and a scene is currently in place today, Friday, February 23, while a further search of the area is carried out.
"The ammunition has been seized for forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing."
