Lenny Scott: Friends launch fundraiser after Skelmersdale murder

On Thursday, February 8, Prescot dad John 'Lenny' Scott was gunned down outside a gym on Peel Road, Skelmersdale, with Lancashire Police launching a murder investigation after a suspect made off from the scene on a bike.

Following the tragedy, Lenny's family released a heartbreaking tribute to the 33-year-old, who described him as a "devoted dad" and the "biggest, funniest, and most loveable person".

To try and ease the pain for the devastated family, his friends have launched a fundraiser in honour of the former prison officer who used to play football for Rainhill Rockets.

In memory of Lenny, his friends will walk up Mount Snowdon on Saturday, February 24, with many participating in dog onesies due to his love of dogs and animals.

Although the challenge has not yet taken place, the fundraiser has already smashed through its initial target of £1,000 to raise more than £2,200 in just over a week.

In a statement, Lenny's friend Scott McDonnell said: "Myself and John/Lenny were very good friends for over 20 years going through Prescot school together, both playing for the school football team and for Rainhill Rockets at weekends.

"We were definitely a big part of each other’s upbringing and then into adulthood, being out most weekends and then becoming fathers to our beautiful children!

"Tragically, John/Lenny was taken away from us way too soon.

"He was the most gentle giant anyone could ever know, hence why he got the nickname Lenny (Of Mice and Men).

"John/Lenny loved his animals (especially his dogs) as much as his own children so I’ve decided to do a sponsored walk up Snowdon in a dog onesie, as I know John would find it hilarious (I can hear his laugh in my head now).

"The walk will take place on Saturday 24th February with most of the lads we were close to in school, and I would be extremely grateful if people could donate whatever they can and all money raised will be going straight to John’s family.

"Thank you for taking the time to read this post and thank you in advance for any donations."

During Lancashire Police's murder investigation, a 25-year-old man from Liverpool who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Lenny’s funeral is confirmed for 11th March at 11.30 at Greenacres in Rainford, with the family requesting guests not to bring flowers but to wear a pair of Crocs if they own a pair.
