Fury as nails and screws scattered across roads in Parr and Haydock

Multiple people have reported the issue on social media over the weekend, with numerous junctions allegedly "covered" in the small but sharp objects.

The objects are reported to have caused damage to many passing vehicles, which has infuriated residents who may have to pay hundreds of pounds for new tyres to resolve the damage.

Over the weekend, masses of nails and screws were reported to have been left on roads such as Fleet Lane, Evelyn Avenue, Simms Avenue, Lansbury Avenue, and Boardmans Lane in Parr.

Hundreds of people responded to the social media post over the weekend, with further residents saying they were stung on the school run at Lansbury Bridge school.

A taxi driver also explained that he had been stung with nails in each of his vehicle's tyres, with many alleging that it has been a deliberate act.

Further objects were reported to have been left on Old Whint Road, Harty Lane, and Gleneagles Drive in Haydock.

Merseyside Police said that it is aware of the reports and has increased patrols in the area. The force added that reports allege that a group of youths were involved in spreading the objects.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Please be aware that we have had a number of reports of nails and screws in the road around Lansbury Avenue, Fleet Lane and Boardmans Lane.

"Another report was of a group of youths spreading these.

"We have increased our patrols, please check any CCTV/dashcam if you are in the area."
