A HOUSING group has progressed to the next planning stage to deliver 239 affordable new homes within the Halsnead Garden Village development.

Halsnead Garden Village, in Whiston, is the largest combined housing and employment site in the city region and one of the first 14 sites in England awarded Garden Village Status by the Government.

Once complete the development will deliver approximately 1,600 new homes and at least 22.5 hectares of employment land, 33 hectares of new greenspace and a new 28-hectare Country Park.

Reserved matters planning approval has now been granted to deliver 239 homes for affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership. The proposal is set to be built out in two separate phases – bringing a mix of rental accommodation and a range of affordable home ownership options to the area – with a mix of one-bed apartments and two, three and four-bed houses.

Your Housing Group has planning permission to deliver a total of 373 affordable homes at Halsnead Garden Village.

Lorraine Donnelly, head of development for Your Housing Group, said: “This is another positive step forward in this development.

"Your Housing Group has ambitious growth and construction plans to deliver much needed affordable housing across the region.

"The garden village principles with community facilities and green spaces are very much in line with our vision to not just deliver quality homes, but to unlock affordable living and build thriving communities. Thank you to Knowsley Borough Council and Homes England for their support in moving this project forward and showing true partnership working.”

The Your Housing Group planning application was developed in line with Knowsley Council’s requirements and the Garden Village design principles.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “I am delighted that hundreds of much needed, high quality affordable homes will be delivered within Halsnead Garden Village as a result of the Your Housing development.

"This development alone will mean that around 25% of the proposed 1,600 homes at the Garden Village will be affordable and this is exactly what many of our residents have been asking for.

"In addition, Knowsley Council has recently secured £3.614m from developers involved with the Garden Village to support delivery of hundreds of affordable homes within the wider borough. Halsnead Garden Village will benefit residents across Knowsley and the wider region and the Your Housing Group offer will further enhance that.”

Your Housing Group purchased the 28-acre site – located off Windy Arbour Road – at the end of 2020 and have been undertaking remediation work to prepare the site for this development. Knowsley Council approved the outline plan for the 373 homes project in August 2023.
