ST HELENS has been given a yellow weather warning this week as a second round of snow could hit the borough.

Following the arctic temperatures felt in mid-January, the Met Office state that more cold air will be moving in from the north which will see temperatures fall across the country.

The airflow is also expected to bring "wintry hazards and snow" for many areas across the UK, including heavy snow in St Helens.

The yellow weather warning has been put in place over Thursday and Friday, which could bring power cuts and disruption to transport and mobile phone coverage.

Weather outlook for St Helens:

Wednesday: A dry day with periods of hazy sunshine poking through cloud. Will feel notably colder and fresher than of late. Light winds. Light winds will continue through the night and turn very chilly. Temperatures between 1°C and 6°C,.

Thursday: A chilly and frosty start. Winds will strengthen through the morning with outbreaks of rain arriving from the south, this likely turning to sleet and snow at times. Temperatures between 1°C and 3°C, although this could feel as cold as -5°C at certain times.

Friday to Sunday: Unsettled with spells of heavy rain and further snow possible on Friday. Some drier intervals at times over the weekend though still unsettled. Often windy and feeling cold. Temperatures between 5°C and 9°C.
