Police appeal after man 'stabbed' outside St Helens nightclub

Officers have issued CCTV images of a man who may have information that could help their inquiries after a man was found outside a nightclub on Westfield Street with stab wounds.
 
At around 1am on Saturday, December 23, it was reported that a man was assaulted by an offender carrying a knife outside the nightclub.

CCTV footage later showed the offender running along Westfield Street, carrying a knife, police say.

The victim sustained slash wounds to his chest and arm that required hospital treatment after the attack.

Since the assault extensive CCTV and witness inquiries have been conducted in the area.

Detectives have today, January 18, issued CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to who could assist in their investigation into last month’s attack.

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “This was a violent attack in our town centre that has left a man with multiple stab wounds. 

“Everyone should be able go out and feel safe in our town without the fear of being attacked and we are working to find anyone responsible and bring them to justice. 

 “I am appealing to the man shown in this CCTV footage, or anyone who recognises him to come forward as we believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.

“Similarly, if you saw the assault or the victim involved in this incident in the early hours of Friday morning please contact police as soon as possible.

“If you have any photos on your mobile of the incident or CCTV footage from the early hours of Saturday, December 23, then do let us know as any information you hold could support our enquiries.”

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel added: “Merseyside Police is determined to protect the public from serious violence and knife crime. We remain committed to targeting anyone who chooses to carry weapons on our streets and bring them to justice. 

“Through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners our officers are continuing to reduce and prevent knife crime in Merseyside.

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch so we can act on community intelligence.”
