HEAVY rain has hit St Helens since New Year's Day afternoon.
The Met Office has enforced a yellow alert from 5pm on Monday to 9pm on Tuesday.
It comes after an extremely wet spell of weather over the festive period.
The warning states that "heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption".
There is a closure today on Burtonhead Road, between McDonald's and Milverny Way, St Helens Council has confirmed.

Wet weather is expected to be very likely to continue in St Helens with a high chance of precipitation until around 8pm this evening.
