ST HELENS Council has confirmed there is one road closure in place due to flooding following the heavy downpours.
The rainfall on New Year's Day into this morning, Tuesday, has caused some flooding, with a Met Office yellow warning in place until 9pm tonight.

A St Helens Borough Council spokesman said the only road closed today (Tuesday) due to floods is Burtonhead Road, between McDonald's and Milverny Way.
Meanwhile, flooding has also been reported today at the Vulcan bridge, at Alder Root Lane, near Newton-le-Willows.
