The Secret Halo
Gemma Dean has been hairdressing since she was 18 and has trained with some of the industry’s greats.
She opened The Secret Halo in 2019 specialising in hair dressing as well as hair loss, wigs and extensions.
Having suffered from alopecia and losing her hair at the age of 19, Gemma, who is from Eccleston, wanted to learn more about wigs and how to style them, so she could incorporate them into her job as a hairdresser.
The 32-year-old, who scooped the first of our Best of awards in 2022 tells us how she trained with Trevor Sorbie in London and how a pink Christmas gift sparked her interest in hairdressing.

One salon stands out as a haven for men looking for a good haircut and beard trim.
Simon Yates and The Speakeasy Barbershop features in Meet The Barber.
The 49-year-old tells us why they attract customers from all over the north west and how a barbers in Rotterdam provided the inspiration for the new business eight years ago.

Isobel Rushton is a local girl from Haydock – she grew up here, started a family here and even opened her own business here.
