A HIGHLY respected butcher has been blown away by the generosity of local people after suffering a huge setback at Christmastime.
As previously reported by the Star, Roy Kilgallon was dealt a devastating blow on Tuesday, December 5, as he dropped £1000 while rushing for a delivery on Cambridge Road.
Working as a butcher for the past 46 years, Roy has developed a trusted reputation as a "great butcher and a lovely man" and he previously spoke to the Star about his business' battle against the convenience of supermarkets.
Hundreds of people responded to this article, highlighting the respect that Roy has in the community, and people were genuinely gutted for his financial loss at a time that is usually the busiest time of year for his one-man business.

After the huge disappointment of his loss of earnings, family friend Danielle Lynch launched an online fundraiser to try and recoup the money so that his business wouldn't suffer in what is usually a busy festive period.
In a matter of weeks, more than 90 people have donated to Danielle's fundraiser which has recouped all off Roy's lost money and more, with the fundraiser totalling £1140 at the time of writing.
Even more people are believed to have visited Roy's Cambridge Road to give his business a further boost at Christmastime.
Working as the sole employee at the Newtown butchers shop, Roy prides himself on knowing exactly where each of his products comes from and offering the highest-quality meats.
The dedicated butcher, who used to wake up at 3am to meet the demand during covid, also prides himself on the business’ cleanliness and fostering a great relationship with regular customers.
After handing over the money to Roy, Danielle said he was "very grateful" that the fundraiser was set up and for the community's generosity in recouping his lost money.
