THE community has been left reeling this weekend after a defibrillator installed in memory of a much-loved man was vandalised in Taylor Park.
Following the tragic passing of 46-year-old Carl Foster in April, after he suffered a cardiac arrest while out with friends and colleagues, his devastated family and friends fundraised for a life-saving defibrillator to be installed in Taylor Park following his death.
Not only was this meant as a lasting tribute to Carl, who was from West Park, but it was intended to be for the long-term benefit of the community and anyone in urgent need of a defibrillator.
However, just weeks after the life-saving piece of equipment was installed in the park, it has been stolen and vandalised over the weekend.

Residents reported that the theft took place on Friday, December 15, which has left Carl's family and the wider community in anger and shock.
Posting on social media, Michelle Ruddock, Carl's sister, said: "To the [suspects] that broke into and vandalised the defibrillator in Taylor Park yesterday, I hope you are bloody satisfied with what you have done.
"That piece of expensive vital equipment was provided by friends and family of my brother Carl who passed away in April. I'm raging!
"To [the people who did this], I hope to god you don't have the need to use this as it won't be there! What is the world coming to?!"
Many more expressed their frustration on social media, with some describing the act as "utter mindless theft and vandalism", with others calling it a "disgraceful" incident.
After the anger shared by many across the community, local people have quickly come together in support of Michelle and the family, and have again fundraised for a defib to replace the stolen one.
With more than £1000 raised in a matter of days, Michelle said that she is "overwhelmed with the kindness" that has been shown and thanked the community for their support and donations.
