POLICE say they saw a driver watching a football match on an iPad while travelling along the St Helens Linkway.

Officers spotted a motorist watching the Tottenham V West Ham Premier League match on a device mounted on the dashboard, it is alleged.

Police said a man from Lancashire was reported in connection with the incident for the alleged offence of using a motor vehicle on a road whilst television receiving apparatus is visible to the driver.

In a statement, police in St Helens said: "After a long day at work, there is nothing better than putting your feet up and watching the match but at least wait until you get home

"A male from the Lancashire area scored an own goal last night as he was spotted by Team 3 officers travelling along St Helens Linkway whilst watching Spurs vs West Ham on an iPad mounted on his dashboard.

"Putting yourself and others at risk in order to watch a football match whilst driving simply isn't acceptable, especially as it's Spurs."

They added the driver was reported over the alleged offence.

"He was given a red card and sent home," officers jokingly added.
