PROPOSALS for three self-contained flats in the town centre have been submitted.

An application proposing the erection of a detached building to form three self-contained flats and amenity space, along with car parking access, on land adjacent to 46 Shaw Street, have been submitted.

It is currently ‘awaiting decision’.

The design and access planning statement says economic benefits will be associated with the scheme through employment associated with the erection of the new building, and also have a ‘positive contribution in terms of the sale of building products and convenience sales nearby’.

Furthermore, it states that social benefits will be delivered through the new building and additional affordable housing, and environmental benefits will be secured through bringing the site back into use and ‘improvements to its appearance’.

It adds: “The new building would ensure that modern building regulation requirements are met, improving the energy efficiency of the building.

“The redevelopment and efficient use of previously developed land and reusing an existing building is a further environmental benefit associated with the development.

“The site is highly accessible and is served by public transport that travels through the area and links the site to the wider St Helens area and Merseyside Region.”
