OVER the next few days we will be publishing our interviews with the winners at this year's Pride of St Helens Award.
We have a 16-page supplement of the awards night complete with all images and the interviews for sale in shops across St Helens inside this week's St Helens Star, all costing just 80p.
The next award interview we are publishing is that of Koby Prescott, who won the special award only announced on the night - The Special Recognition Award.
THE surprise award on the night went to Koby Prescott in recognition of his hard work aged just 17 in carrying on his dad Stephen Prescott’s legacy...following in not only his shoes, but that of his proud mum Linzi and big brother Taylor as well.
The Pride of St Helens Awards is part of the legacy Stephen Prescott has left behind, as well as the foundation in his name and the St Helens 10K.
It was his dream to praise all the good in this town, and despite his own health battles, the love of his hometown and wanting to help others remained key to who he was.
Since his death in 2012, his wife Linzi carried on his legacy and the Steve Prescott Foundation runs regular fundraising efforts all under Stephen’s mantra, What the mind believes, the body achieves.
The latest of the Prescott clan to join the efforts is Koby Prescott, who this year scaled Mount Toubkal Challenge, after last year completing a climb Everest Base Camp He was nominated for a special recognition award for his efforts in not only doing both monumental challenges aged just 17, but carrying on his father’s legacy.
The teenager was shocked to receive his award, with his proud mum Linzi taking to the stage to give the award to him.
He said: “I’ve grown up watching my dad and then my mum do all they can for the foundation to help others.
“I knew once I was old enough I wanted to do that too, it’s overwhelming really to get this. I didn’t know it was happening but it means a lot because these awards mean so much to my family, this town and my dad.
“If I’m half the man my dad was then I’d be happy really, it’s just about doing what I can to keep his legacy going and making my mum and brother proud.”
Linzi added: “Koby and Taylor didn’t have their dad long, but in the short time they did have him he instilled such important and lasting impressions and life lessons on our boys and I couldn’t be more proud of both of them.
“I’m proud every day of the men both boys have become, they have such a close bond and are both good people.
“I know Steve is proud too and I just love them both so much - you really deserve this Koby, I’m a very lucky mum.”
