VANDALISM caused by intruders at a high school is “shocking and appalling”, the chair of a parish council has said.
As reported by the Star, criminal damage at Rainford High has led to the school announcing it will be closed to pupils on Monday.
A police investigation is taking place.
Parents with pupils at the school have expressed shock and anger.
And in a statement, Councillor Chris Lamb, chair of Rainford Parish Council, voiced his disappointment at the incident.
He said: “I was both shocked and appalled to hear about the incident at Rainford High overnight.
“The disruption to learning, delayed educational programme and the emotional impact this will have on both pupils and the increased financial burden on families who will now have to take time off work, much of it unpaid is hard to put a figure in.
“The wreckless nature of these criminals creates an impact that will ripple through our community and beyond.
“All of us at Rainford Parish Council fully support Mr Young and his team to get the school up and running again as soon as possible.
“If you have any information at all which can help then please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Calls are completely anonymous and rewards of up to £1000 are given in some cases.”
