THE performance data of secondary schools at this summer’s GCSEs across St Helens has been released by the Department for Education.

Nine secondary schools in the borough had data revealed which included the attainment scores achieved from this year, the percentage of student that achieved a grade 5 or above in key subjects and the average grades of pupils who achieved the English Baccalaureate (EBacc).

Progress 8 scores are also included and are rated from Well Above Average all the way down to Well Below Average.

These scores show how much progress pupils at each school made between the end of key stage 2 (the end of primary school) and the end of key stage 4 (the end of secondary school), compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2.

This is based on results in up to eight qualifications, which include English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three other additional qualification.

A score above zero means pupils made more progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2.

A score below zero means pupils made less progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2.

A negative progress score does not mean pupils made no progress, or the school has failed, rather it means pupils in the school made less progress than other pupils across England with similar results at the end of key stage 2.

Data also includes schools’ Attainment 8 scores, in which they get a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to eight qualifications, which include English, maths, three English Baccalaureate qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three other additional approved qualifications.
