WHISTON Hospital officially has the best NHS gardens in the North West after bagging latest award.

The Whiston site picked up the North West in Bloom Award for Best Hospital Gardens in a special ceremony with St Helens Hospital also picking up a Gold Award as both sites were rewarded for their commitment to creating and maintaining attractive environments that benefit patients, visitors and staff.

Ann Marr, Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted that Whiston Hospital has been recognised as the Best in the North West, and that both hospitals achieved the prestigious Gold Award for our excellent grounds.

“The Trust is proud to provide hospital environments that are welcoming and calming, and our patients, visitors and staff regularly tell me how much they appreciate and enjoy the gardens.

“I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the local businesses who sponsor us to provide the wonderful plants and flowers and to David Platt Landscapes and his team who year on year provide the most beautiful surroundings for our patients and staff.”

Darren Share, chair of the RHS Britain in Bloom judges, said: “Our congratulations go to all the finalists for their incredible commitment and the difference their hard work makes to their communities.

"Groups were passionate and innovative, they showed how important it is for green space and environmental projects to be at the heart of community life.”

David Platt Landscapes were given a special recognition award by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust earlier this year for their multiple award-winning work on the gardens at both sites over the past 30 years.
