TWO St Helens venues and one Prescot venue have been named in The Good Food Awards 2023.
Brother’s Burgers in Thatto Heath in the restaurant category and The Courtyard on City Road and The Station Coffee House in Prescot in the café category, have all been named in the Good Food Awards, joining the best in the UK on the list.
The Courtyard Coffee Shop was opening in May 2022 by former drama teacher Cathy Owens, who followed her dream of opening her own café.
The Courtyard has since become a focal point in the neighbourhood, many regulars visit several times a week and it has gone from strength to strength in its first year – so much so they had to extend.
But for mum-of-two Cathy, the key behind that success is her family, staff and the community.
Speaking on being named on the list, she said: “It’s amazing news for us because we’ve only been open a year and a half and to get this recognition is brilliant.
“This is all down to my amazing staff and the community of customers who have supported us from day one helping us to grow.
“I didn’t realise how important these awards are but my chefs assured me it’s a big deal and I’m so proud of all we have achieved.”
The Station House in Prescot is another firm favourite on the food scene since opening its doors seven years ago in Prescot train station.
Carl Shore from Whiston, who owns The Station Coffee House with wife Nicola, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be named BY The Good Food Awards.
“We’ve won awards before but this one is very special and it shows how much people appreciate the use of local produce in our menus.
“Our staff are amazing as are our customers.
“I’ve been a chef for 20 years now it’s my pride and joy so to be named is amazing.”
Brother’s Burgers have also been named Good Food Award winner, being awards the Blue Ribbon.
Brothers Burgers in Thatto Heath is one of three branches of the business with other venues in Haydock and Warrington opened by Thatto Heath born businessmen Steven and Darren Leigh.
It opened its doors on Thatto Heath Road four years ago and won North West Takeaway of the Year at the beginning of 2020, becoming a firm favourite in the area.
