THE case of a train passenger has come before the courts involving a disagreement over a rail fare.

Chris Cook, as stated in the particulars of the charge which he admitted, acted in an 'abusive and threatening' manner on a Northern journey.

The 34-year-old, of Molyneux Avenue in Bewsey, Warrington was later charged with using threatening, abusive, obscene or offensive language and travelling on the railway having not paid the fare.

Warrington Magistrates’ Court heard how Cook contravened railway byelaw on Saturday, March 18.

The defendant made a rail journey from Earlestown to Manchester Piccadilly and was unable to produce a ticket when asked by a rail revenue officer.

The officer decided to issue an unpaid fares notice, but while doing so, Cook became abusive and threatening.

He said: “I’m going to take your f*****g head off,” before his girlfriend had to pull him away.

The defendant’s details were obtained and he was advised the facts would be reported, and following the incident, a letter requesting an explanation was sent to the defendant.

Cook was ordered by magistrates to pay a total of £513.70 after pleading guilty to both offences.

This is broken down into a fine of £253, compensation to cover the rail fare of £9.70, a surcharge to fund victim services of £101 and courts costs of £150.
