A GANG of burglars armed with a sledgehammer targeted a village post office in an early morning raid.
They struck at Rainford post office, on Ormskirk Road at about 3.20am on Friday, November 3.
Three men, all dressed in black and carrying the sledgehammer, broke into the premises.
Police say they left the area along Cartwright Close and onto the Rainford Bypass having stolen a large pack of seasonal stamps.
An investigation is underway as officers continue CCTV and forensic enquiries.
Appeal for information
In a statement, Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “Business burglaries are not a victimless crime – they have a huge impact on shop workers and the people that use their facilities in our communities.
"We are determined to find these offenders and ensure other businesses are not targeted in future.
