THE council has submitted a planning application for the next stage of the Parkside Link Road project.

With the scheme entering the latter stages, the local authority says it is making some final minor amendments that "will ensure it delivers on its promise of enabling new jobs, regeneration and smoother traffic flows".

St Helens Borough Council’s Highways Team has submitted a planning application to both St Helens and Warrington local authorities, which is designed to further encourage traffic using the new Parkside Link Road to access it via Junction 22 of the M6 motorway. This, the council says will minimise use of local road network, in line with the planning conditions previously imposed.

The application will also improve aspects of the tree planting and landscaping, which will help make this one of the greenest employment sites in the region, the council added.

Councillor David Baines, leader of St Helens Borough of Council, said: “Parkside Link Road is key to unlocking the full potential of our ambitious Parkside development, improving access and reducing the potential impact on the local community by taking traffic to the site away from the local road network.

“As we advance positively to completion of the Parkside Link Road project, this next step – known as a ‘Section 73 application’ – has now been submitted and if there’s anything in the proposal that you would like to discuss, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Highways Team by emailing HighwayImprovements@sthelens.gov.uk

“We thank residents and businesses for their continued cooperation and patience during construction of this vital infrastructure and wider site works.”
