A cover letter in the application stated: "The proposed scheme is identified as the most suitable site option and design that balances operational needs with local planning policies and national planning policy guidance.
"It will deliver public benefit in terms of the mobile services it will provide."
A previous application by Three UK for a 5G at Walkers Lane had been withdrawn in August.
Following the latest application, planning officers ruled that prior approval is not required and the 5G mast can go ahead, and must be installed within five years.
In a report, case officer Alex Ball said: "The proposed development would not impose harm on the character and appearance of the area, with particular regard to its siting and appearance.
"The proposed development has been designed to ensure that the impact of the equipment will not result in a visually obtrusive structure".
