CHURCH Square Shopping Centre have been praised by the public on social media after staff took it upon themselves to offer free sanitary products to those unable to afford them.

Last week on social media, a post highlighted posters up in Church Square Shopping Centre saying: “Do you need sanitary products? Please ask one of our Church Square Team. You will be given a free bag no questions asked.

“If you prefer you can ask for a package for Rita, and our team will know what you mean #LETSENDPERIODPOVERTY”

St Helens Star:

A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: “It really lovely to see that this has generated such positive attention.

“The centre team have been working on some community and sustainability ideas with Andron, their cleaning and security contractors.

“The scheme is a collaboration of Andron and JLL to help with people around St Helens who cannot afford or get caught without any sanitary products below are some reasons Andron decided on this product.

“Staff at the centre have been doing the 100-mile clean initiative, litter picking local waterways and streets around the centre to reduce plastic going into waterways. This has been going on for the last three months, they have litter picked the Hotties canal and lot of side streets in and around the town centre.

“The centre staff are all local people and wanted to continue these initiatives. One idea that they came up with was to help people in any small way they can during the cost-of-living crisis, so they started a scheme where the cleaners have a package of women’s sanitary products on the cleaning trolleys.

“If any customers are in need when they are in the centre all they need to do is ask a cleaner or member of security or pop up to the management office and ask for Rita and they will be assisted.”
