POLICE have issued a warning to motorists to secure their cars - at a time of year that often sees a spike in thefts.
Officers in St Helens urged people to “double check your vehicles are locked when not in use” as the darker nights and mornings descend.
They also advised people to “leave valuables out of sight” in an effort to deter thieves.
Motorists are also advised to “consider using a faraday box for keyless entry vehicles” to stop crooks trying to breach security systems.
In a statement, police in St Helens said: “This time of year has an increase of theft.
“Don't give offenders an easy chance to steal. Stay safe!”
