PLANS to build two industrial units on vacant land have been drawn up.
Proposals seeking full planning permission for the construction of two industrial units for flexible use, with ancillary offices, car parking, infrastructure, landscaping and associated works at the former British Sidac site, on land north of Robins Lane, Sutton, have been sent in to the council.
A planning statement, produced by Urbana on behalf of the applicant, CRT Property, said the site is "currently vacant awaiting development, having previously been occupied by British Sidac from the 1930s to the 1980s, after which the site was acquired by St Helens Council and all previous structures demolished in the 1990s".
Since this time, "vegetation has become established across the site".
One of the proposed units will have a total floor space of 20,000 sqft and the other 12,000 sqft.

A design and access statement says: "The units are proposed to share the central service yard and will have a total of 56 car parking spaces (2.5m wide x 5m long). This includes five disabled parking spaces.
"In addition to this are: 10 secure cycle spaces under a cycle shelter and three motorcycle/powered two wheeler spaces".
Plans add that "existing vehicle site access from Ellamsbridge Road is proposed to be retained and improved to meet current standards. As the proposed development is located adjacent to the main highway network it is easily accessible to all vehicles".
It was added "the proposal will improve the road side frontage of the junction with Robins Lane and Ellamsbridge Road" and "will demonstrate a significant environmental, economic and social improvement for the local area".
Plans state the new buildings will "provide a contemporary development, in keeping with the surrounding context and local area".
The planning statement in the application concludes: "It is considered that the proposals represent the optimal use for the site, aligning with local and national policy to deliver significant public benefit through local economic enhancement and industrial development, which should be welcomed in the context of the local context."
The planning application is on standard consultation to the public until Tuesday, October 14.
A determination deadline on the plans has been set for January 1, 2024.
