THE Works has confirmed its continued presence in St Helens town centre until at least 2029 as a result of confidence in the town's regeneration plans.
Despite online speculation in recent weeks, The Works will not be closing their unit at Church Square Shopping Centre and have today, Friday, confirmed that they will be remaining in the unit until at least 2029.
The discount retailer which is located in Lagrange Arcade, accessed by the high street, is popular amongst St Helens’ shoppers for their extensive range of books, art and craft materials, gifts, toys, games and stationery.
Several stores have recently made the move from the Hardshaw Centre to Church Square Shopping Centre, ahead of regeneration plans that involve the site occupied by The Hardshaw Centre currently.
Matt Brindley from The Works, said: “We have today committed to continuing the lease on our unit at Church Square Shopping Centre until 2029.
"Over the past year we have seen many changes to the town centre and are very excited about the regeneration plans and all the changes yet to come.
"We have seen retail continuing to perform at Church Square in recent months, all of which has given us the confidence to commit to at least 5 more years at the centre.”
Cllr Kate Groucutt, cabinet member for economy, business and skills at St Helens Council, added: “This is fantastic news for our town centre visitors who value businesses like The Works, bringing something different to the shopping experience here in St Helens town centre.
"It’s also another clear sign that businesses are already seeing the benefits of bringing the shopping footprint together in a more concentrated area. This is even before works start next year on the regeneration of the town centre which will bring more people to the town with the new market hall.”
Steve Brogan, centre manager of Church Square Shopping Centre, added: “We are thrilled that The Works have made this commitment to stay with us, they are a popular tenant with our shoppers, and it is encouraging to see that our stores are as excited about the town centres regeneration plans as we are.”
