A ST HELENS town centre gym has switched to become a 24-hour venue offering residents the chance to have a work-out at any time of the day or night.
The family-run HAMMA Fitness, which first opened in January 2022 at its premises on the corner of North Road and Duke Street in the basement and mezzanine floor, has made the change.
Although an extension of the business run by the family, which includes the Hamma MMA Academy, the gym is a separate entity.
Owners Sean and Caroline Martin, and son Owen, decided to make the change to help cater for those who work unsociable hours, have to juggle other commitments or are more of a ‘night owl’.
With there not being many other 24-hour gyms in St Helens and none in the town centre, they hope the opportunity for people to be able to “drop in whenever they want” will offer something different for people.
Thanks to the power of technology the gyms says they no longer have to rely on rigid opening hours and their members have exclusive access via a fob entry system which gains entry to start their training session safely.
This small boutique gym boasts is fully-equipped and spilt over two levels, with a separate strength and conditioning area.
Since the change the family say they have noticed a significant increase in numbers highlighting that it is an important asset for the community.
Caroline described HAMMA Fitness as a “quiet relaxed gym” with a “friendly atmosphere”.
Caroline, 47, said: “We are delighted with the feedback and support we receive from all our members, visitors and service users.
“We wanted to create something different and away from the martial arts gym we are well known for. HAMMA Fitness has its own following, new members and opened new opportunities for us as a business.
“We love building community resilience through health and fitness and we are now getting the recognition for it.”
She added: “We were nervous about opening 24 hours, who wouldn’t be, however we have the best systems in place and it helped with the transition. I am very proud of what we as family have achieved and want others to know if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything, positivity is key.”
