A planning statement, drawn up by Rapleys LLP on behalf of Rontec Service Stations, has been included in the application.

This says: "Rontec has identified Mill Lane Service Station for improvement / modernisation as the existing PFS is now outdated".

It adds: "The proposed new forecourt shop / sales building will have a clean and contemporary design featuring a glazed curtain walling frontage with dark grey framework on the frontage (southern) elevation facing the forecourt.

"As part of the reconfiguration, the existing canopy above the fuel pumps is to be delinked and shortened.

"This will allow for the accommodation of five car parking spaces with one being built to a disabled standard.

"The existing car wash facility and the four fuel pumps, configured in a four-square shape, will be retained in their current form".

The apllication states: "The use of the site will remain the same and as such, the impacts on the surrounding occupiers should not be altered from the existing position at the site".

The planning application is on consultation to the public until Thursday, October 19.

A decision on the proposals by council planners is expected by November 20.
