NEWTON Grill opened its doors less than 12 months ago but it’s made a fantastic first impression with customers.
Before owners Gareth Hughes, Mo Zaki and Ste Tunstall have been able to celebrate the Newton-le-Willows business’ first birthday, they’ve won our final Best of 2023 award – St Helens Star’s Best Restaurant 2023 – and they couldn’t be happier or prouder of everything they’ve achieved over the past year.

Next on the menu was the search for St Helens’ Best Restaurant and Newton Grill took the final Best of 2023 crown.
Gareth, Mo and Ste opened Newton Grill on Wargrave Road in December last year – a family-run business that provides much needed comfort food for its hungry customers.
They offer breakfast, brunch, lunch and evening meals in a relaxed and comfortable environment and they also provide healthy meal prep for people wanting to eat at home.
All meals are nutritionally balanced and they can cater for most dietary requirements.
Mo, who is 37, said: “We decided to open Newton Grill because we wanted to offer a quality food house in the Wargrave area.
“Our business background is in catering, public houses and meal preparation.
“Gareth is chef and we all wanted to put our experience in catering into practise.
“We are a family-run business offering home cooked food and we also offer comfort dining and healthy meal prep.
“We have sponsored some high level athletes including a former heavy weight world champion.
“Our sister companies Newton Fitness and Newton Functions are also keeping us busy.”
Gareth, who is 49, added: “Customers like the tasty, home cooked food that’s well presented and reasonably priced and the friendly atmosphere at Newton Grill.
“Meeting the customers and being able to employ local people are at the forefront of our restaurant.”
But what do customers at Newton Grill think about the restaurant? Why did they think they should win our final Best of 2023 award?
There were lots of nominations and recommendations for Newton Grill – they clearly keep their customers happy.
One nomination said: “Great home cooked food and massive tomahawk steaks – amazing!”
Ste, who is 53, said: “When he heard we’d been shortlisted for St Helens Star’s Best Restaurant 2023 award we were so proud to have our hard work recognised.
“When we were told we’d won we were ecstatic – it’s such a big achievement.
“It’s amazing what we have achieved in such a short space of time.
“A huge thank you to all our loyal customers for their support – their time spent voting – in making us the best restaurant in St Helens.”
