A FORMER cherished drinking spot in a village is on the market.

Fiddle I’th Bag Inn in Burtonwood closed on New Year’s Eve in 2018.

It has stood vacant since, and in 2020, it was the subject of an arson attack that caused ‘extensive damage’ to the building.

But the reopening of the pub on Alder Lane looked to be a step closer back in May 2022 after plans were submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

Then May this year, the Star reported how a group of residents campaigning to save the pub had found a potential investor.

Locals had come together in an attempt to buy Fiddle I’th Bag Inn due to its significance as the final original place markers laid down in the village and civil parish in the 1840s.

St Helens Star:

The campaigners said they had found a "preferred buyer" of the pub, who share the group’s vision to reopen the pub and bring it back to its former glory.

However, the pub has now been listed on Rightmove.

The description reads: “The former public house is offered for sale with benefits of a premises license, to be purchased as a freehold pub/restaurant opportunity.

“The site may have a higher alternative use value subject to obtaining planning for residential development.”

It is listed for £350,000.
