A MUCH-LOVED community cafe reopened as normal yesterday despite another devastating episode.

A burglary was reported to Merseyside Police on Monday morning after owners at Momo's cafe discovered that offenders had forced entry to the premises and stolen a quantity of cash.

It is believed that the burglar forced entry at the back of the Westfield Street property in the early hours of Sunday, September 10.

The incident comes just weeks after Momo's reopened from a forced three-month closure, when a driver suffered a medical episode and crashed into the premises in May.

The cafe, which is well known for its community activities, games, and social events, was also targeted by burglars in October 2022.

Highlighting the support that Momo's has in the community, hundreds of people reached out and reacted to the news of the break-in on social media.

And determined not to let the episode phase them, the team reopened as normal yesterday morning as police investigate the reported burglary.

Commenting on the reopening, Colin Clemmitt, co-owner of Momo's, said: "Everyone was back and ready to reopen as normal today because these guys are amazing.

"We couldn't ask for a better team and that goes for our customers and all the volunteers who help with our events too."

Despite the difficulties of being forced to close following the crash in May, Colin said that business has been really promising since the turn of the year.

With community activities and social events booked up for weeks in advance at Momo's, this has helped to strengthen the cafe's business after everything the team has been through.

And while he expressed his appreciation for the community's support online, Colin hopes that this can be "translated into foot traffic" to give further support to the beloved cafe.

In relation to the reported burglary, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 9.15am on Monday, September 11, of a burglary at Momos on Westfield Street when unknown offenders are believed to have forced entry and stolen a quantity of cash.

"Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC quoting log 197 of September 11."
