THE owners of a much-loved cat say they are "worried sick" after their beloved pet went missing last week.

Persian cat Eddie has not been seen since Thursday night last week, August 24, near the garden of his owners' Hard Lane home.

Owner Janet Langridge, who lives with husband Chris, has been sharing appeals and trying tirelessly to find him.

Janet has had Eddie for two years after he was rehomed and has been "passed from place to place" before settling into his current home.

"He was really scared at first and now he's just a completely normalised beautiful cat and I can't understand what has happened to him," said Janet.

"He got through to where our neighbours' front garden is and the neighbour saw him at 11.30pm sat completely happy in the driveway like he was headed towards the wall which separated our house from theirs. That was it, we've not seen him again.

"On Friday I registered him with Catradar and I did the same all the St Helens groups."

Janet, 69, says, apart from a possible sighting of Eaton Road, on Saturday, where a search ended up fruitless, they have had no word about Eddie's whereabouts.

"There has been nothing else, it is as if he has vanished into thin air. I wonder if he's been sheltered by someone that think he's a stray and took him in.

"I've done everything I can think of. It's a complete mystery."

Janet, a retired teacher at St Edmund Arrowsmith in Whiston, added: "He's happy living with us, he's got his own chair, bed and everything. I don't understand why he would go. There has been that awful weather and I have been worried sick."
