A £12 MILLION development on the site of a former fire station is taking shape.
Steel works are progressing at the former Millfields fire station site in Eccleston, where a care home is being built.
Ground works on the site started in May and since then cranes have been set up on site, where the frame of the residential home is being erected.
As previously reported by the Star, plans for a care home facility on the land near Knowlsey Road are being carried out by Angela Swift Developments.
The former Eccleston Fire Station was demolished and in its place a 66-bedroom facility with views over Mill Dam is being created.
The home - opposite the Eccleston Grange housing site and a retail development including Sainsbury's Local, will be run by Lovett Care, which has decided to name it The Waterside.
It is expected the site will open by late 2024 or early 2025.
The home provide 24-hour support and care for elderly people with residential and dementia needs, the applicants say.
Recruitment will start next summer.
A design and access statement drawn up in the application, on behalf of the applicants, stated: "We believe that a low impact use such as a care home is the perfect way to foster the redevelopment of the site in a manner which will enhance its character and provide in the region of 60 jobs.
"It is clear that the council recognises the importance of the roles played by residential homes in meeting the special housing needs of the community and we feel this site is ideally located to link with transport networks for visitors, residents and employees."
