THERE is a Met Office yellow warning for rain in place in St Helens today which has seen a wet start to the day.

There have been downpours this Monday morning, August 14.

However, the early rain has stopped things are expected to be drier as today progresses.

From a 90 per cent chance of precipitation at 10am, the forecast goes down to 50 per cent by 11am.

This drops to as low as 20 per cent by noon and stays at no higher than 30 per cent throughout the rest of the day, with a chance of some cloudy showers from around 3pm.

Temperatures are set to stay in the high teens, with even the chance of the odd bit of sunshine among this afternoon's cloudy showers.

Drivers have been warned to take care on the roads.

 

Meanwhile, the regional north west forecast states Monday will be generally wet before things are expected to turn drier later on in the evening, into the night.

A generally wet and rather breezy day with heavy and perhaps thundery downpours and longer periods of rain. Perhaps turning drier and in places brighter by this evening, and feeling fairly humid if any brighter spells do develop. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Any remaining rain will clear away northeastwards to leave a mainly dry night with a mixture of cloud and occasional clear spells. Feeling slightly fresher than last night. Minimum temperature 11 °C.
