THE Landlords of the Bull and Dog pub have shared videos of their current frustration with the CYCLOPS roundabout works, after hundreds of Star readers sent them their support.
Yesterday, the Star reported how landlords Mike Fishwick and Sara Cunningham have been living in ‘an absolute nightmare’ since the works have been underway from November.
The CYCLOPS - which claims to prioritise the safety of pedestrians and cyclists - segregates cyclists from motorists, aiming to reduce the possibility of collisions or conflict – while making pedestrian crossing times quicker.
However, partial and often almost full road closures have been in place throughout, severely affecting the neighbouring businesses, particularly the Bull and Dog pub.
After the initial report, hundreds of Star readers reacted to the news that the business has been affected more than 60 per cent in the period of time the works have been carried out.
The landlords shared this video of the current layout, which only allows access to the pub via Chester Lane.
Appalled readers have reacted to the situation.
Chris Shaw said: "Didn't need it in the first place, it was one of the safer roundabouts so why change it?
"Money would have been better used on the Roundabout by the Ford dealer as theres always traffic problems there and also repairing existing roads.
"Well done council on squandering money on a project that was never needed in the first place."
Christine Redcliffe added: "I feel for you, seriously don't know how you've manages to cope, the whole area is still a mess, struggle to walk , struggle to drive, there was nothing wrong with the roundabout that was already there.
"Accident waiting to happen. Waste of money."
John Cunliffe said: "It was a shambolic idea in the first place and its delivery has been every bit as shambolic too.
"Be interesting to see in a couple of years time the number of accidents over a two year period before they messed about with it and the same after.
"It’s unlikely to be safer and prove to be an utterly redundant white elephant that cost a shed load of money. Imagine if all that cash had been spent improving the road surfaces we already have.
"The so called drive for net zero is just leading to money being lashed up the wall for someone’s vanity project."
Denise Lloyd added: "It makes me so angry that it's a total waste of money, there was nothing wrong with it.
"I'd like to see the statistics of the future accidents that's going to happen compared to the last 10 years, because people just won't be able to navigate it when it's finished.
"I feel so sorry for the owners of the bull and dog it must be a nightmare for them."
Kristina Chovanova said: "The roundabout was a nightmare for pedestrian, trying to get to the Bull and Dog or the train station.
"All was needed was one visible zebra crossing and maybe some traffic lights!
"This is absolutelly ridiculous, driving around just to get to my own house took me 45mins the other day.
"I dont blame Bull and Dog for their anger, they should defo be compensated, as well as the car garage on the other side, im sure they've lost business too... hope it gets done asap."
Amy Lee added: "Absolutely disgusting the affect it's had on this business especially through the summer holidays when it should be packed.
"Hope the council put their hand in their pocket and compensate them for their loss of earnings it's been a complete shambles from the start and there was nothing wrong with it in the first place meanwhile there's pot holes all over st helens."
