A GRAPHIC designer who wishes he was "half the fighter" of a courageous mum-of-two will fight in a charity boxing match after her terminal diagnosis.

A woman who "always put others first", Elaine Derbyshire was given a devastating terminal cancer diagnosis earlier this year, not long after she rang the bell to mark the all clear from her first battle with the disease.

Given just months to live, her family and friends have rallied around the 55-year-old and she has been "spurred on" by one of her daughter's friends' charity boxing match, who is raising money for Cancer Research and fighting in her honour.

Liam Hulse, best friends with Elaine's two daughters Molly and Megan, said: "Elaine is just an amazing person. She always puts others first and has this great aura that makes her very welcoming.

"She was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago and rang the bell to mark the all clear. So to get this diagnosis has just been heartwrenching."

After previously participating in a white collar boxing match in honour of his great-granddad and great-grandmother, who also battled with cancer, graphic designer Liam has decided to take on the fight again to show his support to Elaine and her family.

He has chosen to raise money for Cancer Research UK after witnessing hoe much the charity helped Elaine during her first battle with the disease.

Liam, 25, added: "Elaine is not only a pillar of strength in her family, but she has also touched the lives of everyone around her with her kindness, love, and unwavering support.

"She has always been a fighter and I think all the messages she has received has spurred her on - by showing her the impact she has had on people.

"I know that the boxing match has also given her some extra motivation and something to look forward to, which has given me an extra reason to put in as much training as possible.

"I just hope I can be half the fighter that Elaine is."

On social media, Elaine's daughter Megan said: "We recently found out the devastating news that my beautiful mum has terminal cancer. It has torn our worlds apart but she isn't ready to give up yet.

"Our amazing [friend] Liam Hulse will be taking part in a white collar boxing match on 9th December dedicated to my mum to raise money for cancer Research.

"We are honoured to have Liam in our lives. For anyone that knows my mum knows she is a fighter and how much this means to us."
