PLANS to transform a pub that has been derelict for almost a decade have been given the green light after numerous failed attempts.
As previously reported by the Star, planning documents were put forward in April to change the use of the former Smithy Manor pub, on Jubits Lane in Sutton Manor.
The plans, which would see the former pub turned into offices and a function room, were the latest attempt to revive the venue after numerous bids have previously failed.

With the site commonly described as an eyesore by residents, the decision to grant planning permission was delayed after objections were raised against "unjustified" parts of the plans.
This chiefly concerned a 2.7 metre entrance gate that was proposed to deter fly tipping and vandalism, as well as issues surrounding the number of car parking spaces, and cyclist and pedestrian access.
So while planning permission has finally been granted for the Smithy Manor, this is subject to conditions that an entrance gate no higher than one metre can be erected and car parking is limited to 19 spaces.
There is also a condition that the canteen provided can only be used by those in the building and not the general public, while building work can only commence between September and February due to the potential ecological impact on the surrounding greenbelt.
With the Smithy Manor derelict since 2015, pub owner David Shwenn has previously failed in his attempts to transform the site into offices and five-a-side football pitches in 2019 and housing proposals in 2016.
While there are conditions attatched to the current plans, Mr Shwenn said that he is happy that progress is finally being made at the site.
The businessman said that he has already spent £100k in refurbishing the upstairs function room at Smithy Manor, and hopes to start development work from September if he receives funding he has applied for.
