A WOMAN who was nine months pregnant when her puppy was savagely attacked by an XL bully-type dog has described her horrifying ordeal.
Holly-Jane Robb, from Sutton Junction, was walking her four-month-old Border Collie puppy Blu on June 8, 2023 on Station Road when an “XL-Bully” type dog ran at her dog, dragging it across the road.
Holly, 21, was heavily pregnant at the time.
Care-assistant Holly said: “I was walking Blu to meet my partner James who was parked on the industrial estate near Sutton Tyres when a dog that looked like an XL Bully ran at her, dragging her across the road. It ragged her about, and I was just screaming.
“Blu didn’t even make a sound then a guy ran out and started kicking the dog to get it off Blu and, in the process, kicked Blu as well.
“I can’t remember everything about what was said, as I was in such shock but eventually, he got the dog off Blu and put it behind a fence but straight away it tried to get back at Blu even though she was lying defenceless in the road.”
A passer-by stopped and got an emotionally distraught Holly and Blu into their car and took them to Rutland House Veterinary Hospital.
Blu had a punctured neck and a damaged eye which will no longer dilate as well as other injuries. She was in the vets for three days and is still undergoing care now, resulting in more than £2,000 of costs.
Holly had a positive pregnancy up until that point. However, immediately after the incident, she couldn’t feel her baby move in her stomach.
Holly said: “I just couldn’t feel him and I had felt him kick all along, I got really worried so after reporting it to the police we went to the hospital where they offered to induce me but I chose for them to monitor me every two days as long as we could
"And with all the monitoring I just managed to get to 39 weeks before they were that concerned that they induced me.
“I gave birth to Harrison at exactly 39 weeks via induction he was 8lb 9oz and thankfully he was fine
"But the last weeks of my pregnancy were awful as I was in and out of hospital to be monitored to check he was ok .
"Blu was in and out of the vets with us not knowing if she was blind in her eye or not.
“It was terrifying, I can’t really believe we went through that. Poor Blu was vomiting blood everywhere and this man clearly has raised this dog, which was sandy-beige and white, in such a way that it was angry, but it will be this dog that will be put down."
“I just want to warn people as I have heard since that this dog has been violent with others before. Police are trying to find the man involved.”
Holly has been unable to take Blu out for a walk since and has even been scared to venture out of the house alone with baby Harrison for the fear that the dog and its owner could return.
Anyone with information should report it to police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
