A ROAD in St Helens town centre has been closed due to a crash involving two cars.

The incident involving a green Kia Niro and a black Vauxhall Corsa happened on King Street, police confirmed.

The collision was reported at about 1.50pm today.

One driver sustained a head injury and has been taken to hospital, police added.

In a statement, police said: "Road closures are in place while emergency services attend the incident. We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route.

"We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.
