THREE people were arrested after two men were stabbed in St Helens on Sunday evening. As a police investigation continues into the alarming incident, here's what we know so far.

Where and when did the assault happen?

Just around 4.30pm on Sunday, July 2 police received reports that two men has been stabbed at an address on Chapel Street, near the junction with Cooper Street. The road is a short distance from North Road. As well as Chapel Street, police had sealed off an alleyway that runs from Cooper Street that runs parallel with Chapel Street.

Who has been injured?

One man was taken to hospital with several stab wounds, but has now been released.

The other man was also taken to hospital with a stab wound to his neck and was in a stable condition when police issued a atement on Sunday evening.

What about the arrests

Two men aged 66 and 40 from St Helens who were the victim injured attack are among the three arrested. A 20-year-old woman was also arrested. They were due to be questioned on suspicion of section 18 assault (Inflicting GBH with intent). They will each be questioned by detectives.

What have police said?

Chief Inspector Nathan Stockley said: “If you saw what happened or have any information which could help us, please get in touch so we can continue our investigations.

“I would like to reassure residents that we believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no wider threat to the community.

“We rely on members of the public coming forward with information so please tell us what you know so we can continue to take action.”
